The treatise Sunzi Bingfa, known as the "13 Chapters on the Art of War" from the "Warring States Period" (5th century - 221 BC) by Master Sun is one of the earliest and most famous treatises on military strategy.

It was extensively commented on in China, served as a model for concepts of dueling and was also extensively received in Japan. The lecture places the treatise in the context of other Chinese military theory writings, presents its contents and also discusses its reception and treatment in the Japanese martial arts.

Dr. Julian Braun (born 1973) has many years of teaching experience and has been intensively involved with the theory and practice of Eastern bodywork and martial arts as well as Western and Eastern philosophical and religious systems since his youth. He studied Japanese Studies, Philosophy and Ethnology in Munich and received his doctorate in Philosophy with Summa cum Laude from the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen.
